Entrepreneurship has become very important in the 21st century. Many countries are now engaging in programs and activities to integrate entrepreneurship into the economy. 

In a bid to achieve this goal, many universities have enrolled entrepreneurship programs. We could also see the transformation in African countries and their efforts to develop. Amazingly, African countries have now introduced courses in Entrepreneurship and business. 

Other African countries are also going to introduce entrepreneurship courses soon. I will look at the top 10 universities in Africa that offer entrepreneurship.

1. AFDA, The School for the Creative Economy

AFDA is a university located in Africa, specifically South Africa. It offers a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Innovation and Technology. It is a three-year program. 

The program has the objective of instilling in students innovation and how to use technology to create and manage their business. It offers a wide range of business and entrepreneurship courses. 

There are four disciplines which are Business leadership, marketing and sales, finance, and business management.

2. University of Johannesburg

This university offers a 3-year full-time program in Entrepreneurship management. One must have at least a pass that is 50%+ in English and Mathematics to qualify for admission. 

Aside from the grades, there are other requirements that one has to meet to gain full admission into the university. The career opportunities are being an Entrepreneur, Marketing Manager, Management consultant, financial manager, Business manager.

3. Edulink International College, Nairobi

EDULINK in partnership with The University of Northampton, UK offers a wide range of courses in Business. The courses are meant to equip students with the skills of managing their own business.

4. South Africa College of Business 

SACOB is located in Cape Town, South Africa. It offers Entrepreneurship. The course is to equip students with the skills of business management and financial management. 

This helps the individual to manage his or her own business. It has a wide range of professional courses in Business and Entrepreneurship. 

5. The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST)

MEST is located in Ghana. It has the objective of equipping students on how to utilize technology to cause an impact in the world. 

It imbibes in students the spirit of being creative and innovative. MEST is a fully 12 months-long intensive program. Its courses include computer programming, software development, product management, finance, marketing and sales, and leadership training. 

All these courses will enhance the skills of aspiring entrepreneurs. It will equip them with the knowledge and practical skills on how to use technology to create and invent new tools and machines.

The Center provides its students with the necessary resources and materials to aid them to have a practical feel of the course. It also inspires and motivates students in the learning process as there are risks in business.

7. University of Dar es Salam Entrepreneurship center

The center is now supported by UK partners, the University of Warwick who provides training to the staff. This is to enhance and improve the teaching skills of staff. The purpose of the creation of the center is to reduce the unemployment rate in Tanzania. It is also known as one of the leading centers of Excellence in Entrepreneurship development. 

Its mission is to facilitate the development of entrepreneurship capacity in Tanzania. They offer entrepreneurship and business management courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

8. Mzumbe University  

It is one of the universities in Tanzania that offers entrepreneurship courses. It was established in 2007 by the University Charter. 

It equips students with managerial experience, business management, and other practical experiences.  As part of its courses, it offers a wide range of business management courses. This equips students with entrepreneurial and business management skills. 

It also offers a Masters’s program in Entrepreneurship. It has well-trained teaching staff who imbibe in students the technical know-how of entrepreneurship. Graduates who come out of this University are trained to be problem solvers and innovative. 

9. Strathmore University 

This is a University based in Kenya. It offers a wide range of entrepreneurship and business management courses.

In line with this, it has an Enterprise development center that Is targeted at small and medium-sized businesses. It builds the capacity of people with business management and Entrepreneurial skills. The reason for establishing the center is to help Strathmore University become one of the leading outcome-driven entrepreneurial universities in East Africa. 

It provides support and training to aspiring business owners and those already in business. It gives them a practical experience of business management through its teaching staff and equipment.

10. Bayero University Kano 

It is located in Nigeria and it offers entrepreneurship as a course. It does well with educating students on the relevance of entrepreneurship. 

The university also equips students with cutting-edge skills that help them to become business leaders. These entrepreneurship courses include business management, financial management, technology, leadership, human resource management, marketing and sales, and other courses.  

Students who attend Bayero University in Kano are trained to cause impact and transformation in the world through creativity and innovation. This has the advantage of creating more jobs and reducing the poverty rate in the country.


Entrepreneurship is very vital in creating job opportunities to solve unemployment problems. The above points are the top universities that offer Entrepreneurship and business. Africa is lagging behind in terms of universities that offer Entrepreneurship courses. 

Few countries in Africa have universities that offer Entrepreneurship as a course. The aforementioned universities in the article should motivate African countries to invest in Entrepreneurship education and development.  This will help Africa to achieve the SDG goal of poverty alleviation and employment.
