A common reason for not being able to achieve set goals is a lack of productivity. How then can you be productive to achieve your goals and get back on track? Brian Tracy has a couple of tips. In this article, I will be elaborating on these tips.

Brian Tracy has written more than eighty books. He knows this stuff too well. He is a Canadian-American motivational public speaker and self-development author

Let’s dive in.

Genius Productivity Strategies By Brian Tracy

1. Use the ‘touch it once’ rule.

The main idea for this rule is to attempt to complete a task or project for the first time. It seeks to drive you into action right now rather than postponing it for a later date.

This does not mean that you should wait till you complete the project or task before moving onto other things. Some projects or tasks may be time-consuming and need extended periods of time to complete.

Instead, depending on the complexity of the task, you may have to assign more time to complete and determine the next course of action.

2. Write down your plan.

It is important to write down your tasks and actions that are necessary to complete the said task(s). This keeps you organized.

Moreover, it is easier to keep track of whatever tasks that you are doing. This will reduce stress as your brain will be more focused on the task at hand rather than trying to figure out what you have done and what you have not done.

3. Set small goals.

Your set goals may be long term ones. As such they may be unreachable in the short term. Thus, it is important to set small goals to take you a step closer.

Small goals refer to short term goals that are achievable. These goals may be yearly, monthly, weekly or even daily goals

Some of the benefits of setting small goals include better focus and the ability to take prompt actions.

4. Plan ahead.

An important productivity tip is to always plan ahead. This means that you can at the end of the day, make your to-do-list for the next day.

This also allows you to save time the next day and gets you ready for the day ahead. You are well prepared as a result.

You should make sure you plan for unseen contingencies since plans may not go according to plan sometimes.

5. Avoid over-committing.

It is important to find balance when working to reach your goals. You must work hard and go the extra mile to meet your goals.

Yet, this must not be taken to the extreme whereby you undertake more work than you can handle within a period. You should make it a point to avoid overworking yourself. This helps reduce anxiety and stress.

6. Stop multitasking.

Sometimes, when you are hard-pressed for time, you might multitask to complete your tasks.

Yet, this approach is counter-productive because your attention is divided among the tasks. This divided attention may result in unintended outcomes. Instead, focus on one task at a time. This will guarantee you better results.

7. Complete the hardest task.

Eat that frog! The frog is the hardest task in your list of tasks to do. You will have to eat it first. Determine the hardest one and complete it first.

The hardest task on your to-do list may be the task that may take the most time or the most urgent of all. Completing your hardest task will reduce stress and bring much relief.

8. Determine when you are most productive.

Time of the day is a big factor in being productive. There are many people who do their best work during the day and others are more productive at night.

It is imperative that you determine when you are most productive. So that you can work on your tasks during that period of the day.

9. Cut interruptions.

There are many distractions that you must not pay attention to when working. These distractions include TV, phones, games and computers.

To do your best work, you might have to switch off these technologies so that you are not tempted to use them.

If you don’t do this, the ramifications would be that your tasks may end up being incomplete. This is not a desirable outcome.

 10. Set time limits.

To improve productivity, you have to set personal deadlines. You must set a realistic timeframe for the completion of whatever tasks.

If you don’t, you might spend hours on a task that you could complete in a few minutes.

Setting deadlines makes you tackle your tasks with seriousness. Due to your desire to work within the allotted time, you can get your goals done faster. This approach will allow you to have more time for work and rest.
